Thank you for your interest in contributing to Awesome Music Ed! This project relies on the collective expertise of music educators to stay current and valuable.
Following these guidelines helps ensure that our list remains a high-quality, curated resource for teachers and students worldwide.
Our Philosophy
Section titled “Our Philosophy”Awesome Music Ed is more than just a collection of links. We aim to provide a curated selection of tools that are:
- Relevant: Specifically useful for music education (Elementary, Primary, Secondary, Post-Secondary, and Private Lessons).
- High Quality: Well-maintained, reliable, and pedagogically sound.
- Accessible: Easy for educators to find and use.
Self-Promotion Policy
Section titled “Self-Promotion Policy”Awesome Music Ed is a curated list of resources by the community, for the community. It is not a platform for personal marketing. However, we believe that some of the best tools and resources are built by the very educators who use them. If you have created a resource that is truly awesome and meets our quality standards, then it belongs on this list. We ask that any descriptions remain objective and focused on value provided to the music education community.
What You Can Contribute
Section titled “What You Can Contribute”We welcome a wide range of resources, including:
- Software & Apps: Notation tools, rehearsal aids, administration software.
- Pedagogical Resources: Curriculum guides, lesson plans, research.
- Professional Organizations: State/national MEAs, specialist groups, instrument associations.
- Media: Podcasts, books, and blogs relevant to music ed.
How to Contribute
Section titled “How to Contribute”1. Suggest via GitHub Issue
Section titled “1. Suggest via GitHub Issue”If you’re not comfortable with Git, the easiest way to suggest a resource is to open a new issue. Please include:
- The name of the resource.
- A link to the website.
- A brief description (1-2 sentences) of why it’s “awesome” for music educators.
2. Submit a Pull Request
Section titled “2. Submit a Pull Request”For direct additions, follow these steps:
- Fork the Repository: Create your own copy of the project.
- Create a Branch: Use a descriptive name like
add-new-resource-xyz. - Add the Resource:
- Create a new Markdown file in the appropriate directory under
src/content/docs/. - Ensure the file has the correct frontmatter.

- Formatting: Use clear, concise language. Description should be objective and professional.
- Submit PR: Provide a clear title and a summary of what you’ve added.
Submission Standards
Section titled “Submission Standards”- Titles: Use Title Case (e.g., Music Education Association).
- Descriptions: Aim for 1-2 medium-length sentences that explain the resource’s value.
- Links: Ensure all external links use HTTPS whenever possible.
Pre-Submission Checklist
Section titled “Pre-Submission Checklist”Before submitting your PR or Issue, please verify:
- The resource is not already on the list (check the sidebar and/or search bar!).
- The link is active and points to an official site.
- The description is accurate and free of spelling/grammar errors.
- The resource is specifically relevant to music education.
Awesome Music Ed reserves the right to edit or reject any submission if it doesn’t align with our curation standards.
