Section titled “Supporting and Advancing Music Education”The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) is the largest professional organization dedicated to music education in the United States. Representing teachers, students, researchers, and industry partners, NAfME advocates at federal and state levels to protect funding and ensure comprehensive, standards-based music instruction is available to all school students.
Key Initiatives
Section titled “Key Initiatives”- National Music Education Standards: Establishes and updates the core national music standards (Create, Perform, Respond, Connect) that guide school music curriculum development.
- Student Performance Events: Coordinates prestigious student festivals, including the All-National Honor Ensembles (Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Mixed Choir, Jazz Ensemble) and state-level competitions.
- Professional Journals & Publications: Publishes premier educational journals such as the Music Educators Journal (MEJ), Teaching Music, and the Journal of Research in Music Education (JRME).
- Lobbying and Federal Advocacy: Operates active grassroots campaigns to ensure music is designated and funded as a core subject within federal education acts (like ESSA).
