Section titled “Sketch and Share Chiptune Melodies Instantly”

BeepBox is a free, web-based tool for sketching and sharing instrumental melodies, specializing in retro, chiptune, and 8-bit synthetic sounds. Its entirely graphical, grid-based approach makes it incredibly accessible for students to explore melody, harmony, and song structure.

Completely Free & No Sign-Up

Start writing music immediately in your browser. All song data is saved directly inside the page URL, making sharing simple.

Grid-Based Sequencer

Simply click on a grid to place notes. Students do not need to know traditional notation to start composing melodies and chords.

8-Bit Synthesizer Engine

Explore retro wave shapes (square, triangle, saw), noise generators, and simple FM synthesizers to customize your instrument tracks.

Flexible Export Formats

Export your finished compositions as MIDI files, WAV/MP3 audio, JSON data, or short, shareable links.

Multi-Channel Sequencing

Create rich arrangements with up to four simultaneous channels (pitch tracks and drum noise tracks).

Offline Capability

Can be downloaded and run completely offline, making it highly reliable for classrooms with intermittent internet.
